Elite Dog Academy Trains Fisher & Dexter from 97x.

Fisher, Dexter & Ramsey

So I had the opportunity to work with Chris Fisher from 97x http://97xonline.com.  He was very fortunate to find a great dog – Dexter from Pet Pals Animal shelter here St. Pete. http://www.petpalanimalshelter.com They are a very good rescue organization and like other rescues in the area, they work tirelessly to do their best with dogs and cats that have been given up.

When I first met Dexter he was a little unsure of himself.  Most rescue dogs lack confidence either because of their constant surroundings, the stress of multiple handlers, and far too often the inability to get much out of the crate time.  Fisher has a hectic schedule, but his commitment to his new found friend was a strong one.  We worked for 7 weeks at basic to mid level obedience.  Dexter completely transformed himself from a shy, uncertain dog over those 7 weeks.  Learning the commands was easy, and Fisher worked diligently on his “homework” of two 20 minute training sessions a day.   Each week that I saw Dexter he was more confident, eager to please, and the bond that obedience training strengthens between owner and dog was easy to see.

Rescue dogs are just as good as those in pet stores.  As a matter of fact they need your love more than any dog out there.  Trust me when I say when you rescue a dog from a shelter, and train with it, you will have a friend for life.

Doberman Pinscher Ramsey gets her TDI

So this week Ramsey completed her TDI – Therapy Dog International cert and her CGC – Canine good Citizen.

This week I saw something different with her therapy abilities.  I was lucky to get my first toy poodle for my dog training board and train program.  I had Luna for two weeks.  In that time she really became quite good friends with Ramsey.  I love seeing the “pack” dynamic when I board and train dogs.  They are in my home, they are a part of my pack, and they learn from my dogs.  Luna took non-verbal cues from Ramsey and that really brought up her confidence.   Now that Ramsey is TDI Certified I can’t wait to start bringing her to the Veteran’s hospital and some of the other assisted living facilities around me.   She is such an amazing representation of a breed that is often misunderstood.  I could not be more proud of my girl.

Quality Dog Leads

My Customer LOVE the professional 4 foot training leads that I provide for them.   Finally I have found a replacement for leather leads.

The ASAT (all season, all terrain) leash is truly the only leash you will ever need.

The innovative material feels and looks like leather, but does not require any maintenance like leather does. That means, no breaking-in period, no leather-oiling, no worrying about getting the leads wet or dirty. They are more comfortable on your hands that nylon leads of the same length and width and don’t “fuzz out” like nylon leads do.

- water, mildew, and rot proof.
- 500 lbs. breaking strength on 1/2”
- 750 lbs. breaking strength on 3/4”
- No maintenance needed
- easily cleaned

I have had my ASAT lead for over two years now and it’s holding up great. If it gets dirty, all I have to do is dip it in water or wipe it with a damp cloth, and it’s as good as new. They also come in many different styles, including trial / police leads with a floating ring in the handle, which is an extremely versatile design. (via Elite K9 Military & Working Dog Equipment)

Exercising your dog

"Ramsey and Maxie"

Living in Pasco county affords me the opportunity to have access to some of the beautiful natural parks that we have available to us.  Couple that with the fact that once your dogs are truly off-leash trained, you can have an extensive of the beaten path experience with them.  Every weekend I take an early morning walk with my good friend Sarah and her Dog Maxie.  Ramsey and her have grown up together since they were pups, and they are both utilized in my dog training business with my clients.  They are treated to an hour and a half of vigorous running and jumping and acrobatic chasing.  Their recalls are perfect, and there is never any people where we go.   Ask yourself this; what kind of exercise does my dog get?  I ask that to all of my clients.  They all respond “I walk my dogs all the time…”   Further questioning reveals that this usually means,  ”I take my dogs out to potty for 5-10 minutes a day”.   Remember that a happy dog, especially those of the working breed variety thrive on exercise.
